Ruben Mejia began his musical journey through public schools as a trombonist at the age of 7. He began appreciating both Jazz and Classical music in High School through the Hamilton Music Magnet program while studying under Dan Taguchi, Jim Foschia, and Greg Robinson. Under the mentorship of these teachers Mejia learned the importance of consistent and efficient practice. Ruben soon began studying privately with Eric Jorgenson and later with Andy Martin.

After graduating from Hamilton High School he progressed to California State University Northridge from 2010 - 2015. While at Northridge Mejia had the opportunity to be part of the musical groups led by Gary Pratt, Matt Harris, John Daversa, Jerry Steinholtz, and Bob McChesney. Ruben strives to share his knowledge from his mentors to his students.
